Official Press Release:

Local Committee Calls Press Conference and Speak-out Against Police Brutality

Tuesday, November 10th @ 5pm
Gainesville City Commission Building, (located on 200 North East University Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32601)

Alachua Committee Against Brutality (A.C.A.B.) will hold a press conference and "speak-out" against police brutality on Tuesday, November 10th at 5pm in front of the Gainesville City Commission Building.

This committee was created in response to the altercation that occurred in the early morning of November 1st, 2009 at a block party on NW 8th street and 4th avenue (Gainesville, FL) between the Gainesville Police Department and party-goers, resulting in the arrest of five people and the deployment of a Tasers by multiple police officers.

We invite members of the media and all concerned citizens to join us as we speak out against the Gainesville Police Department's use of potentially deadly force, frivolous arrests and charges, and outrageous statements in the media against the individuals arrested in the so-called "Fest party riot" incident of November 1st.

We are a group of concerned local citizens who believe that this case is just one highly-publicized incident in a pattern of corruption, arrogance, bias, and violence displayed by members of the Gainesville Police Department. We say- "Drop all charges now." As a committee, we wish to invite other citizens who've experienced or witnessed similar incidents to join us in speaking out and demanding accountability from our civil servants, the Gainesville Police Department and the Gainesville City Commission.

  1. Help identify the rest of the criminals that attacked the GPD officer. Let's prosecute the 5 and some of the others that in a cowardly way attempted to kick the officer in the face.
